Pick a Theme – Any Theme!
It might be tempting to go no-frills and just have a golf tournament. You’ve got participants, you’ve got a dinner plan, and you’ve got prizes. What more is necessary?
Why You Should Have a Theme
Try to take a step away from that mindset. Golf tournaments are an opportunity to create a memorable event that can become something much greater than a one-time hit. If you theme your event, you have a better chance at making an impact upon your guests. You also ensure that they’ll remember your tournament next year – in case you host it again.
Don't forget that some of the best advertising is word of mouth. If you have happy participants posting photos of your event on social media, and your event has standout decor and a strong theme, friends and family of guests will remember your event and be ready to sign up for the next one.
How to Choose a Theme
You don’t necessarily need to choose a “big” theme. Even something simple can add a personal and memorable touch to your event. Consider selecting a color theme, a holiday theme, a seasonal theme, or even a theme that corresponds to the charity you are raising money for. You could theme your tournament after an era, after a type of cuisine, or after even after a location. As long as you pick something and stick with it, it can morph into the draw that keeps guests returning year after year.
Also remember that you don’t need to stay serious. Host a pirate themed tournament and auction, where you decorate tables with treasure chests and host a dress-up contest. Celebrate with a prohibition event featuring flashy ‘20s décor and beverages to delight. Create a miniature New York event with Broadway details, New York style pizza, and lots of twinkling lights. The possibilities are endless.
All you need to do is choose one!
